One Piece is an anime that has over 1.1k episodes. It's because of this that I always feared starting it. The addiction would've actually taken over my life. But now that I'm pretty free this summer since my internship is like half of a full workday, I finally started in the later half of July. It started out as something I could watch while running at the gym, since I ran out of isekai slop to watch. I braved weird looks from old guys on the treadmills beside me in order to watch it, but now I've become inconsistent with gymming because I just stay at the office and book conference rooms to watch on the big screen while eating snacks. I've grown so attached to the characters, and this is one of the most well-written works of fiction I have ever experienced. I've cried and I've laughed while watching this.

Sanji: Yes, his character is meant to be pervy, but it hasn't really annoyed me because he's a gentleman.
- He doesn't lose his ability to reason after seeing a lady
- After Nami's shirt got burned off, he spent a millisecond gawking at her before immediately offering his suit jacket for her to cover up with
- When Luffy fought Vivi and Nami tried to stop them, he held Nami back because he recognized the need for Vivi and Luffy to come to a mutual understanding.
Zoro: Zoro is just such a chill guy
Random Comments
- Shanks saved Luffy from the bandits after Luffy fought them on behalf of Shanks' crew after they disrespected them, by putting his life on the line. Ever since, Luffy has respected people who also risk their lives as a form of the highest resolve. I realize that that's a big reason that war is ridiculous: it is instigated by politicians who don't put their lives on the line. As Shanks said, if you are prepared to take a life, you better be prepared to put your own life on the line for it.
- The soldier at Nami's village threatened Luffy if he didn't keep Nami smiling. Later, Luffy kept telling Nami to smile as he tried to cheer her up while she was sick.
- OMG Bellemere's death was one of the saddest episodes for me. The way the entire village knew Nami's secret (that she was saving up money to buy back the village) but kept it under wraps so that she wouldn't be afraid to run away if she ever needed to... shit had me sobbing istg.
- Zoro's "brothers" (the two bounty hunters that joined them during the Baratie arc) were also so kind and empathetic (crying after hearing Nami's backstory, and when they thought Nami had killed Usopp) and were so cute, little bro vibes fr. Was sad to see them go
- Luffy doesn't know Nami's full backstory because he decided to go on a walk ugh
- Luffy got so mad during Sanji recruiting arc (Baratie) when he realized Zeff was to Sanji as Shanks was to him aww. One lost an arm and the other lost a leg
- Luffy scaled the cliff that the Drum Island castle was on to get Sanji and Nami to a doctor, the the point that his toes and fingers bled
- THE WAY CHOPPER'S DAD HIRILUK STILL ATE THE MUSHROOM THAT CHOPPER RISKED HIS LIFE FOR, THEN BLEW HIMSELF UP SO THAT CHOPPER COULDN'T SAY THAT HE KILLED HIM.
- The way Zoro keeps getting insanely beat up (even by Luffy, who uses him as slingshotable material/a springboard), and Usopp keeps losing teeth, was STRESSING me out. Never saw them go to a doctor either (at least pre Chopper joining)
- After Luffy scenes, I really appreciate Chopper and Zoro actually having intelligent conversations
- Every time Going Merry is damaged, I get so freaked out
- When Nami created a thunder cloud with the dumbass weapon that Usopp made I was actually shocked. She is so intelligent and I appreciate that especially after a bunch of dumb Luffy or Usopp scenes
